I picked up the surgically-repaired Horacio last year just in time for his DL stint, so I am obviously wary. But, Ramirez had a strong/healthy spring training and is part of a deeper Braves rotation. He carries a low ERA which, as this former Brian Lawrence owner can attest, can be a real plus.

For a 13 team keeper 5 X 5, my starters are: Ollie Perez, Clemens, Burnett, Lowry and Madritsch. Should I jettison Madritsch for Ramirez or stay away? Do you think Ramirez can stay healthy?

WROOOONG forum, but i like ho ram more than madstritch, but i wouldnt expect that much from him

By the way, I believe it's spelled "wrong forum". Law school made me cranky too, but after 6 years of practice the only thing that gets me angry is a bad fantasy baseball transaction.

Maybe I'll stay away from Horacio.

Do you have any reason to believe he will get hurt again? He isn't getting injury after injury, and before the one last year his ERA was stellar. I like him more then madritsch too.

I'd stay far, far away from Horacio. Nothing but a 5+ ERA and 1.5+ WHIP awaits you. He also won't get any K's.

yowza. that's a pretty assertive prediction. what makes you think he will be so awful?

note: i'm not saying he's going to keep up that 2.whatever ERA he had for the few starts he made last year, but i don't think 4.00 ERA/1.35 WHIP is out of the question, and i thought his K rate was at least average...

"5th starters" for the braves have generally been pretty decent, IIRC.

ERA is a bad predictor for future ERA. His predictive stats show his ERA should have been 5+ last year so unless he improves a lot you shouldn't expect any better than that. I know it's tempting to go after a 26 year old who puts up a 2.39 ERA in a part season, but don't.

he pitched like, what, 50 innings? he was fine coming out of the bullpin in 2003, so i don't know why he would implode as a starter...
