The value of B.J. Ryan?

Postby Rookies » Wed Mar 23, 2005 7:58 pm

I had this guy in my league last year as a relief pitcher and he was pretty dam good - absolutely dominant against lefties.

I think he could have a very nice first year as a closer: see Joe Nathan last year.

ESPN has his average draft position as 128th which sounds like a steal for a guy who has a legitimate chance at 40 saves.

My question is will the O's be good enough to give him the save opportunities?
Don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic. - Crash Davis

how many times do we have to say it?

the amount of wins don't necessarily contribute to save opps

Didn't 'someone point out a few days ago that on average teams with more wins will have more save opportunities than teams with less wins...

I took him over Baez. As i knew i'd be able to grab Adams at the death if cheap saves really became needed, Ryan has far more upside than Danys.

Is Ryan the closer? The presence of Jorge Julio scares me away from Ryan...

Julo has pretty much proven he can't throw strikes so if Ryan blows up the O's are sort of stuck imo.

I think Ryan has the lead for the job, but Julio isn't that far behind. I'd bank on it remaning with Ryan, but if Julio proves he is healthy and Ryan has a few bad outings, I wouldn't be suprised if he lost the job...

From the Baltimore area, and there is much confusion about who will become the closer for the O's. Had Julio last year, and had a miserable time of it. got the saves, but in a league where losses count, he hurt a lot. Some key additions to the pen make Ryan my choice for closer, but it seems that Julio is putting up a fight and doesn't want to lose his job that easily. Still, I'd take Ryan if I could... the Os aren't looking bad and I believe he'll come through over Julio
