I read that he has had extreme stiffness etc and he may be out for a little. Anyone hear anythign like that? Whats the news? Who will back him up? Fuentes has been pretty crappy thus far, so I am not sure.

*edit: I think its actually his right shoulder thats hurting. ... p&c_id=col

Looks like the article basically answers it....
Left-hander Brian Fuentes and right-handers Scott Dohmann and Ryan Speier are possible choices.

Speier 1.17 ERA, sub 1 Whip, 7.2 IP
Fuentes 7.2 ERA, 1 whip, 5 IP
Dohmann 3.12 ERA, 1+ whip, 8.2 IP

thus far.

Last year,
Speier: Did not play in the majors
Fuentes: 44.2 IP, 5.6 ERA
Dohman: A handful of innings, 4.2 ERA

I like Speier as the backup anyway... if Tsao can't play, do you think he'll take over?

Right now it looks like it would be Speier but from what I read this is minor stiffness not extreme.

Yet one more reason to adhere to fantasy baseball's most reliable truism...never draft any Colorado pitcher. Ever.

Speier's minor league stats, for any interested:

2001 R-CASPER 3.16 ERA 1 save 25.2 IP 24 K's
2002 A-ASHEVILLE 3.93 ERA 1 save 36.2 IP 39 K's
2002 A-SALEM 3.94 ERA 4 saves 32.0 IP 33 K's
2003 A-VISALIA 1.53 ERA 18 saves 58.2 IP 73 k's
2004 AA-TULSA 2.04 ERA, 37 saves, 61.2 IP, 70 K's

26 years old, only played double A ball. Career 1+ k's/IP, which is pretty impressive. His ERA has also been brought down to a very nice level.

If he relieves, I would expect a 4.5-5.5 era.
