Brad Penny rehab start notes

Postby thehat » Tue Apr 19, 2005 4:32 am

Pitched with a stiff wind blowing dead away. Six strong innings, 79 pitches, 59 for strikes. Four seamer was mostly 95, touched 97. Two seamer was 91-93. Had a bunch of K's, and threw 59 strikes in those 79 pitches. Only mistake was a two seamer that sat in the middle of the zone and was crushed by Andy Tracy over the 433 sign in dead center, and which was a HR even with no wind.

Talked with him after the game, and he felt good about his performance. Obviously won't know how he feels physically till tomorrow (later today, actually).

He'll most likely be recalled and in the rotation next week, and barring any unforeseen setbacks, he's ready to be plugged right in if you own him.

Unless of course he opens with the unfavorable matchup at Coors, which at least for me he will be on my bench for. But other than that, sounds like he is making good progress. Thanks for the update. ;-D

That's right, forgot about that. In fact, DePodesta's line (he was at the game this evening) was that Penny was so eager to get back with the big club that "he might be the first pitcher ever to beg for a start at Coors."

Nice catch on that, tmoney.

GREAT thread, hat. Impressive stuff. Nobody really knew what was going on because his injury was so rare.

Thanks hat....I'm fully expecting him to rebound to semi-stud status after a couple of starts. His stuff is wicked, and he pitches in an easy division (outside of Coors anyways). Should be a great year for Penny, and now is a great time for anyone who is considering buying low. ;-)

Good stuff....thanks hat. Just one note, on Baseball Tonight it was mentioned that LA will probably not make his first start of the year be at Coors. Probably the series after that.
