Nomar replacements

Postby klvrdude » Thu Apr 21, 2005 6:45 pm

Who are a couple of buy low, good value replacements for Nomar?

I'm thinking
Renteria
Furcal
Berroa (he's 27 and in his 3rd full year)
O-Cab ( I think once he settles in LA ;) he'll be fine)

As for FA: Valentine, Visquel and Izturis seem to be readily available.

Berroa is your best bet; all the others you're probably gonna have to pay too high for, especially since everyone will know you need to replace Nomar.

Nobody is going to give up Renteria, Furcal or O-Cab very easily, that narrows your list down. I'd probably go with the hot hand from the FA pool for the meantime and hope to land someone who contributes a little bit. I mean, Nomar was killing your batting average, so you can't do worse with just about anyone. I have Nomar on atleast two of my teams. I dropped him on one team, and waiting to put him on the DL on the other. In one league I had Furcal at Util, so just moved him to SS. On the other team, I picked up Valentin. Good luck.

I was just talking in generals. I personally, as a Nomar whore, will me going after O-cab. His owner just picked up Barmes, which means to be that he's not happy with him in our 12 team 5X5 roto league...go figure.

EDIT: I was right, I got decent offer for O-cab

I have Reyes in one league so I moved him to SS and picked up Iguchi off waivers. I don't follow Iguchi, but I know he didn't play today...hoping that doesn't continue.

In my other league (I picked Nomar in both leagues) I took Valentin off waivers. I have quite a few guys with good AVG. history so I'm hoping I can get away with him and grab some HRs.

I'm going to try these guys out for a while before deciding if I want to try for a trade.

this bites!!!! !+) !+) !+) !+) !+) !+) !+) :*)

Nomar Temp

Postby jaronson » Fri Apr 22, 2005 12:24 am

The Cubs have recalled Ronny Cedeno (SS) ChC from Triple-A Iowa to replace the injured Nomar Garciaparra on the roster, according to the AP. Cedeno was batting .348 with three homers and six RBI in 13 games before the promotion.

he'll just be a backup - i cant remember the source but i have heard rumblings of the cubbies having interest in julio lugo - it would make sense, deal lugo, get something in return, and bring up upton...

i like valentin, if he can keep his BA up and play against lefties and righties, he can be money - its crazy, after all the depodesta bashing, the dodgers are rocking this year (except tonight against eaton)

I am gonna add either Izturiz or J. Valenitne. (probably Iztuirz) Than I am gonna try and get Furcal and Rollins. There is a team that has both of them so that might be an option. Or I might be able to get O. Cabrera cheap
