Pat the Bat vs. Wily Mo

Postby benjapage » Fri Apr 22, 2005 11:36 am

looking for a consensus, here. just curious how people are valuing these two guys...seems to be vastly different for everyone. someone asked me these questions recently, and i'm taking my best shot.

who will have more HR? wily mo
who will have more RBI? pat the bat
who will have more runs? wily mo
who will have higher average? wily mo

maybe just because i'm a reds fan? how are you valuing these guys? in a standard 5x5, i'd rather have wily than pat...despite the playing time issues (which are beginning to appear moot).

b
yeah, yes...

I'd rather have Burrell although I like them both, despite their tendency to K a ton.

Burrell will beat him in every category except maybe Average, mostly because pena won't play every day.

I'd say Burrell for R/BA, and maybe one of HR/RBI. Wily Mo is an all or nothing guy like Adam Dunn - except without the walks. I don't think his BA will ever be very good, and probably not as high as Burrell's for this season anyway.

And speaking of Dunn... did anybody notice that 11 of his 12 hits have been for extra bases? Wow. He's never gonna reach his goal of 25 SB's if he can't stop at first base!

This is tough cause it soley depends on Wily's playing time. Pat will get his. Having said that, Pat has never been an average guy, but I see him getting 25-30 hr's. With playing time, wily mo could hit a tonne. I'll give the edge to him in that cat.

I take it that the 3 bags and home plate form a square, so the hypoteneuse of either triangle is more distance than any of the other sides? I never actually thought about that...
The odds of the AL MVP coming from the American League are looking pretty good.

Well I think it is hard to compare the two, Burrell should get 550 AB's and Pena prolly around 350-400 AB's. For that reason alone, Burrell will have a very good chance at winning each stat.
