Chad Fox closing for Cubs today

Postby wannabthechamp » Sun Apr 24, 2005 4:30 pm

Just an update on the Cubs closer situation, Chad Fox is getting the nod from Dusty Baker today. Not sure if it is his job now but he has been a solid reliever so far this season.

Just grabbed Fox in both my leagues. Dropped Reistma and MacDougal.

Hawk only pitched one game yesterday (no more in a row), so workload is not the reason (like Carter yesterday for Tampa).

He nails it down for his first save. Got a strikeout, a ground out, walked a guy and then struck out the last batter. Looked pretty decent.

Apr 21 Borowski has been throwing fastballs off the mound the past couple of days, and barring any setbacks, he should be cleared to try some breaking pitches as early as this weekend. The Cubs' righthander has been sidelined since suffering a hairline non-displaced fracture in his right ulna when he was hit by a comebacker during the last week of spring training, but is ahead of schedule in his recovery. He could be ready for major league action in 2-3 weeks.
Advice: Borowski will throw a couple of simulated games before going on a minor league rehab assignment. The dates for those events are yet to be determined. Also to be decided is whether Borowski will reclaim the closer role, or if the Cubs will stick with LaTroy Hawkins. Borowski was limited to 22 appearances by a shoulder injury last season, going 2-4 with an 8.02 ERA and nine saves.

no word yet whether or not it will be closer by committee and i could see that happening, just have to wait and see. borowski isn't exactly a solid closer but i bet he will get the job back on a short leash.
