Mota headed to DL

Postby cordscords » Sat Apr 30, 2005 8:36 pm

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Florida Marlins closer Guillermo Mota will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury.

Tests on Mota's right elbow Saturday revealed inflammation. The Marlins will put him on the disabled list Sunday and make a corresponding roster move to fill his spot.

Mota is 0-1 with a 1.86 ERA and two saves in 10 games. Todd Jones got his first save Friday night when Mota wasn't available. Florida also is without injured reliever Antonio Alfonseca.

This has been the worst year for closers I ever remember.
There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.
