Polanco's Value

Postby mwb743s » Wed Jun 08, 2005 5:21 pm

He should play everyday now right? I am assuming that is why they would trade Urbina for him. Where does he fit in value now? Where does he play everyday? Just curious how this will all play out.

so far, all I can find is this:

"Polanco is a quality second baseman which we feel will help us both offensively and defensively," Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said.

As a Detroit fan, I hope he starts everyday at 2B, while Infante moves to the Util role. Comerica clearly isn't the hitters park that he was coming from, but the Tigers at least have a decent lineup. He has a chance to be the #2 hitter, but we'll see, as Trammell has tinkered with the lineup quite a bit.

Even if he plays everyday I say this drops his value. He's going from one of the top three hitters parks in the majors to one of the worst three and he's changing leagues which invariably does take time to adjust to.

He won't hit HR's, he won't steal bases and he may struggle to hit for a reasonable average for a time.

Limited value in AL only leagues.

Agreed. Polanco is a good utility player, 4-5 games per week. He is also rather fragile.

On the question of his value. We can faab players coming over from the NL.How much would you spend to get him?Minimum bid is $5.00 but knowing the owners in my 12 team AL only keeper he could go as high as $25.00 and maybe $30.00. I wish I knew what the average was that he went for in auction drafts.

i'm thinking that polanco will do well because now he knows he'll be in the lineup every day.

Tiger fan here -- don't forget that the Cubs mildly pursued Polanco as a replacement for Nomar. He has played about a full season of SS during his career and is by all accounts a decent fielder at that position.

My guess is that he'll be SS eligible at some point -- Guillen's legs are notoriously fragile.
