Standard Deviation in Your League

Postby shortsavage » Fri Jun 10, 2005 4:22 pm

I have a a pretty diverse owner group - in terms of talent - in a stardard 5x5 Roto league that I put together at school. I think we have as much space between our twelve teams as any league.

Right now we have a standard deviation of 20.65. There are four distinct tiers in our league: 1st, 2nd-5th, 6th-9th, and 10th-12th. It's fair to say that one guy knows a lot more than the rest of the league, four guys know what they are doing, four other owners have made some big mistakes, and the final three owners are clueless.

How does your league shape up? It would be fun to see more standard deviations too (takes about 45 seconds on excel or a TI).

My friend just checked his standard 5x5 yahoo public league (where it is safe to say that two owners are just messing around). They have a SD of 18.32.

It would be cool if sites kept track of the disparity in the 5x5 and 4x4 leagues that they host.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. -Crash Davis

10x10 12 teamer
(5x5) + (1B,2B,3B,SO,OBP; L,CG,SHO,BB,IP)

We play H2H, but it calculates Roto points too. (About the only thing TQ is good for)

H2H SD: 14.29

Roto SD: 15.56

Tiers:
1st-2nd way out in front
3rd-8th very close (2.7% winning percentage difference between 3rd and 8th)
9th-10th
11th and 12th way behind

Interesting thread

This is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but how do you figure out this standard deviation? i would like to see what it is in my league. Thanks for any help with this.

Thanks
