Smoltz -- Best H2H week of the year?

Postby skibum » Mon Jun 27, 2005 12:20 pm

My league runs Tue-Mon, so I got both of Smoltz's starts this week:

2 complete games, 2 W, 1 ER, 10 HA, 2BBA, 13K, 18 INN.

We give points for CG's on top of innings, so for the week Smoltz's total points = 67.39

Who can top this?

Yeah I got both his starts for my H2H team also and he managed to combine with Dontrelle to get my ERA down to a respectable 4 something after Randy's blow up last week and Harang and Sabathia's 2 shellings a piece. Smoltz was a complete stud and his h2h week is up there with the best pitchers of the season. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come because I know I expected him to be having a better year when I drafted him.

i'm curious as to what you were expecting, because a 2.88 ERA over 109 IP is HUGE, and he's on pace to win about 18 with 200 Ks. what more could you ask for?

That's fine and dandy and pretty darn impressive. If Smoltz keeps throwing CGs his arm will fall off sooner than I expect.

Check out Carpenter's line for last week. It's pretty much on the same level.

2 W, 1 CGSO, 19K/17IP, 0.53 ERA and 0.59 WHIP.

I'm pretty happy with his cumulative numbers. Obviously these last 2 starts helped the ratios quite a bit. The slight displeasure I was mentioning was referring to his performance before this past week. With him winning 5 of his last 6 starts and lowering those ratios and still getting solid K's I really have no reason to complain. I hope he keeps it up.

I know....going from a closer to a starter is tough enough, but now he's pitching CG this is crazy..

50th Career CG with a half a career as a closer mixed in the middle... What a horse. I hope Smoltzy does it for 2-3 more years and makes the Hall. They just don't make pitchers like they used to.
