I heard a lot of people feeling negative about Zito. Saying such things as "Zito's curveball don't break anymore"...

I was watching the A's for the first time this year yesterday and his curveball look pretty good to me.

Why is everyone still not liking him?

i think people are still bitter that he's not as good as 2002 or have been looking at his past few years and not at him now. he's been looking pretty good his last couple starts and IMO is a pretty good buy low guy with the A's heating up.

No, I didn't get him cheap. He was one of my favorite players so I paid Radke and Chris Young for him.

I think I actually overpaid...

The good thing is that I was trying to trade away my pitching depth at the time and there are plenty of FA pitchers I was able to pick up after two 2 for 1 deals. (Lowe, Lilly, Westbrook and most surprisingly: Carlos Zambrano 8-o )

The other owner is kicking herself now... :-D

i actually got Zito off of the WW after his terrible start. I live in the Bay area and get to see all of hsi starts on TV.

Zito's curveball the last few games has been as nasty as ever. He has been dropping them in from the left-handed hitters front shoulder for a strike. straight filth. his command has been good and he has been working his way out of jams very well.

His only problem that I have seen is that he is afraid to use that big curve as his "out" pitch. He''ll get a 0-2 count on the guy with curves and then he'll start trying to get him out with 85 MPH wanna-be fastball. He gets a lot of fairly deep flyouts which explains why he is susceptible to getting rocked every once in a while.

Bottom line si that right now he shoudl be ranked about where he was drafted this year whereas at the beginning of the year people thought he was WW fodder.

Good points, Titanic. Except in the game that I saw, Zito didn't shake Kendall off too much.

Yeah, I am sure Zito is just going with the game plan, but i just wish he would throw the curve even a bit more. I will tell you for certain that he is throwing more curves in his last 5 starts then he was at the beginning of the year. So it seems like in this case its a matter of Kendall catching on to how Zito works best.
