Dealing With Unpaid Teams: Help!

We had that happen a few years ago; the deadbeat fell way out of contention (roughly this time of season) and when pressed for his share basically said, 'why should I bother?'

Since then, we have a May 1 deadline and then it's roster freeze time.
I admit draft day is the preferable deadline. Ours allows legitimate hardship cases a few weeks to assemble the Benjamins ... if you can't scrape it up in a month, you don't need to be playing fantasy — you need a job.

The problem is obvious if you let them go this long because if their team is out of contention for placing in the money then they have no incentive to ever pay unless the same people play together every year.

i think if you set a date of "no pay, no play" it needs to be well before draft day, or else you're spontaneously faced with the unenviable task of finding someone else to take that team's spot. good luck with that, right?

i'm sure these guys are good for the money, but that's not the point. the point, really, is that it never really should have come to this, and if there were more stringent rules (strictly enforced, of course), we wouldn't be dealing with it at all.

thanks again.

in one of my money leagues, we won't even let them draft until the fees are paid.

another option is to make the most vocal person in the league, "the collector of fees" .. They'll get so sick and tired of hearing from him, they will pay.
good luck.

My league used to be no money, no draft... but in recent years, it has been loosened to no money by opening day = frozen team until payment. But this is also a league that has been around for a few years now w/ very little turnover.
