Return to Baseball Leftovers

This year's #1 Picks (ARod vs. Pujols)

FWIW, many people had A-Rod WAAAAAAAAAY down on their draft lists. Many veterans at the Cafe were advocating not taking him until the end of the first round. Definitely a mistake.

I was one of the many of this thought. I have to say the numbers did make sense, ARod has just performed above those. With that said next year it's Pujols #1 no question for me. Musky pointed out some question marks about ARod and with Pujols you know exactly what you're getting. The 1B and 3B position depth wise are very similar with 1B having a little more depth. Not a big enough difference to get ARod over Pujols though.

For me, the choice is easily Pujols. A-Rod is 1A, though.

LOL ...

Yeah , and you don't see that guy around here any more, even though he was very vocal about it, and owes money to some of us :-°

But out of curiosity...

why do people spend so much time debating this very subject?
This is not the first thread of its sort and it is certainly not the last.

In redraft leagues, you have about an 18% chance of grabing either one, and in keeper leagues, you probably have zero chance of nabbing them.
But yet winning in roto-ball has very little to do with your first round pick.

so I am just curious as to why? :-?

my rankings before this year were pujols, vlad, arod..... i doubt they change after this year, as vlad is heating up now.... if he had not been injured i do believe vlads stats would be close to pujols and arod as well.....

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. If I have the #1 pick next year, I won't skip on Pujols.

Pujols should definitely be the obvious pick. Pujols has put up great consistent numbers EVERY SINGLE YEAR he has played in the bigs and he keeps improving little by little. A rod has had some years like last year for instance where he didn't live up to #1 pick numbers. Id take Pujols any day of the week over A Rod.
