Return to Baseball Leftovers

When do you predict Beltran will go in 06?

I'd take him if he slipped to the back half of the second round. But I suspect he'll still get nabbed in the first round in many leagues. I don't see him having a season this brutal again.

My sentiments exactly.

Exactly and some people will draft him late first.

Yep, I would take him late 1st/early 2nd in a heartbeat at this point. The 3rd round for a player of Beltrans Calibur is ludacris.

Too many afternoon BET marathons? I keed, I keed. :-b

However, what most people seem to be neglecting is the fact that Beltran's value is predicated on how many bags he steals. If he steals a few bags a year, there are plenty of other outfielders who could top his numbers. While he seems to be stealing more now, the trend is unmistakeable. It seems almost inevitable that his steals will dry up at some point, and that point sure seems like now.

The daily news has Wright possibly staying at the 3 spot in the batting order and Beltran coming back at batting 2nd, whenever he returns...they still haven't ruled out surgery, hope he doesn't need it.'

But if he bats 2nd I think he'll run more. Batting 3rd ahead of Floyd (lefty) made carlos less apt to run. They'd leave carlos at 1st to leave a hole open for Floyd when batting. Wright is a right handed batter. I think this is a good idea, and we'll see more steals when Carlos returns, also because the rest for his head, is giving his legs more rest as well...the quad shouldn't be an issue when he returns.

I agree with the mid 2nd - early 3rd sentements. I'm not sure I'll take him there myself because theres always gonna be someone available that I like to perform better.

Would you take him over say Sheffield or Aramis perhaps? Because thats the sort of range I think he'll go.

I probably won't take him, unless he can fall to me in the mid to late 3rd round but I highly doubt hell be going there, he probably will be going late 1st just because there will be so many believers in him still and because of what he is capable of doing, but on average I say hell be going early 2nd to mid 2nd.

i dont know how much you can rely on the daily news. even if he does slide into the 2 hole, willie said himself that beltran is going to be his third bat in the lineup. but even in the three hole, i still expect him to run. as of late tats all the mets can do to score runs.

beltran will get taken in the second if not the first round. id use my second pick on him. he'd be a GREAT sleeper if he manages to pass the first round.

I agree. I would be shocked if he was available past the 3rd.

Yeah I'd be shocked to, but he's be drafted on potential alone, because I don't think he'll do anything spectacular next year as a Met.
The odds of the AL MVP coming from the American League are looking pretty good.

Yeah well round 2-3 for round 12-15 numbers based on potential he will not be a bust again in Shea is a fool's bet. Sometimes even fools get lucky and win a bad bet, but that is one risk vs reward ratio not worth dealing with when the alternative is another great round 2/3 player.
