Help Me Out. Who Do I Drop For Durham

Baker's comments about Alfonseca taking over were made at the beginning of May. That's seven weeks ago. Borowski had a two game glitch against the Yanks where he was shaky. Big deal. He's 14/16 in saves, ERA remains terrific and opposing hitters are a robust .195 vs. him. The fact he remained as closer after the Yankee weekend and has since rebounded with four straight solid outings has cemented my opinion that he's the closer. Get rid of six fingers and toes...maybe you can sucker someone into taking him.

Drop Alfonseca

Postby joe61878 » Thu Jun 19, 2003 10:26 am

Why is everyone against Catalanotto? He's been spectacular for me this year, much better than expected. Alfonseca hasn't done jack this year -- that would be my first choice.

I do wonder, though...You have Vidro at 2B, so I'm assuming you would take Preston Wilson out of your lineup and have Durham DH. You might want to trade Gibbons and Wilson for a stud closer if possible.

He's been relatively shaky, in my opinion. In the Reds/Cubs game (Mon. night I believe?), his control was off at points. True, he did hit a few key pitches, but missed quite a few, too. It's definitely not comparable to how he was pitching at the beginning of the year. He was lights out. Thus, I believe Borowski is gonna slowly decline this year, to losing the job of closer. Dusty obviously has confidence in Alfonseca and will not be afraid to go to him to close games.

Why would I bench Preston Wilson? He's done nothing but hit this year

I'd drop Alfonseca. Then, try to package either Durham or Vidro w/ Gibbons and upgrade your pitching.
