Pitcher/roster churning during playoffs ... ??

Postby Wind Dancer » Mon Oct 03, 2005 4:27 pm

Well, now that the leagues are over, I would like to see how everyone else handles "pitcher and roster" churning during the playoffs. One of our league guys, in the first round of the playoffs, was losing 8-4 after Friday night's play was over. He picked up 6 new pitchers for Saturday and six new pitchers for Sunday...and won K's, ERA. Wins, and tied in WHIP! Needless to say, he won the week ...did the same thing in the final week of the playoffs and won the league...after finishing fourth.

Do you guys allow that kind of stuff in your leagues and if not, when or how do you set a deadline for frezzing the rosters/ pitchers/ players, ec?

Thanks.... B-)

The best way to fix this is to set a max. innings pitched limit at the start of the year. If there is no rule against it there is really no way to stop it.
There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Hmm, I'd just set up some rules for the future. Like set up rules so you can't churn guys throughout the year or something. Or limit the amount of spot-starters.

I don't think the guy did anything wrong. He didn't do anything outside of the rules. Unfortunately, stuff like this happens, and he didn't break any rule this year.

2 popular ways to go:

#1. Weekly innings cap.

#2. Use ratios instead of counting stats. IE: K/9 instead of K's, Win% instead of wins, etc, etc.

Both work, so set it up in the offseason, and the problem is solved for next year. ;-D
