Loaiza...

Postby McGill » Thu Jun 19, 2003 12:26 am

Earlier this week, I ran a poll asking whether I should start Loaiza against Boston or not. About 60% of the respondents voted NO.
Being skeptical about Esteban's hot start myself, I decided not to have him activated.

Well, my decision made me miss out on an 8IN, 1ER, 6K win. :~(

Anybody else decided not to start him? :-/

Someone needs to sit Loaiza down and explain to him that he's not this good. I just can't figure him out. He's too old and too bad of a pitcher to have "suddenly" figured out how to pitch.

The guy's a fascinating study. He's always had stuff, but was considered uncoachable and stubborn. Seems to me he finally grew up over the winter when he was out of a job. Also, he added a pitch to his arsenal. Perhaps the most telling indicator was his previous start, where he wasn't as sharp. Evidently, he had a neck problem but decided to gut it out and do the best he could. He wasn't great that game, but the effort meant a lot. I'm starting to believe he's for real and could very well be a 20 game winner this season.
