Red Sox/Mariners Trade Rumor

Postby Big Pimpin » Fri Dec 16, 2005 1:02 pm

Apparently talks are heating up between the Sox and the M's. The main figures in the deal would be Jeremy Reed for either Matt Clement or Bronson Arroyo. This probably hinges on whether Damon re-ups or not, but it could be interesting. I'd love to see the M's deal Reed, convince Ichiro to move to CF, and try to bring in another power bat for the OF.

Yeah this is the backup plan if Damon goes elsewhere.

I wanted the Yankees to make a move on Jeremy Reed for Pavano but we apparently turned it down. :-/

Excuse me--I just blew into town from another planet--but what is so good about Jeremy Reed? If the Red Sox are looking for an alternative to Johnny Damon, there has to be somebody better out there. Doesn't Oakland have a glut of center fielders?

I seem to remember that Reed had pretty good minor league stats but I also seem to remember that he hit .240 something last year, not much of an OBP, no power, no sbs. Do the Red Sox co GMs know something that I don't?

Wow, the M's sure could use another streaky pitcher to demote to the minors for half the season ...

At least this is better than the rumored Marte/Mota for Crisp deal I've seen :-P

This deal could work out for both teams if Reed improves on his average and hits around 300 like he did in the minors while providing good defense, and Clement/Arroyo pitch up to their potential and help the M's pitching staff.

He's a very good centerfielder...and, like you said, it was his rookie season last year, and he did very well in the minors before that.
