What's this trade do to Bill Hall?

I'm a little bummed because Bill E. Hall was a sleeper of mine who has eligibility at a few positions and was supposed to be the starting 3B from what I read.

I think Hall will end up playing a super Utility, splitting time with Koskie at 3rd, and giving the Weeks and Hardy a day or two off per week as well... he may still get starter level at-bats...

I'm not really sure why the Brewers would make this trade. I thought Billy Hall was going to start at third, with Russell Branyan and Jeff Cirllio backing him up. As someone else stated, maybe they just want to use Hall as an Uber-Utility player.

I see it this way guys. Billy is still the starter at 3rd. I think he plays the majority of his games there. However, I also see a guy in Hall who is capable of replacing a couple of really young middle infielders (Weeks, Hardy) when/if they slump or just for days off. So what you have in Koskie is a serious bench upgrade (a bigtime weakness last year until Fielder was called up), and a guy who will probably start 40-50 games at 3rd. Give Cirillo 10 starts or so too, and I'm guessing Branyan is gone for some relief pitching. Hall will get his ABs -- this is a guy who can play 3rd, SS, and 2nd with near equal skill, plus he's been tooling around learning to play CF. I wouldn't bump him too far down your cheatsheets based on this trade.

If I'm wrong, and Koskie starts at 3rd, Billy will still get his. He wasn't a starter last year either and he had 501 AB. A guy that versatile and talented seems to find his way into the lineup nearly everyday.

I think it's a good deal for the Brew -- Koskie (or Hall) is the best bench player we've had in years. We gave up a nothing 25 year old AA reliever, a fringe prospect at absolute best. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, the Jays picked up over half the contract too. A good move in my book.

Koskie is also a solid backup to Fielder, so if Fielder needs a rest, Hall can play 3rd and Koskie play at 1st.

Same thing with Weeks or Hardy if they need a day off. Hall can play SS or 2B and Koskie play third.

This gives them a bunch of solid, interchangeable parts.

According to Rotoworld, Melvin called Bill Hall after the trade was made to tell him that his playing time would be reduced. I think the plan is to platoon Koskie at 3B w/ Hall. He also provides insurance in case Fielder finds it tough going in the Bigs.

Any idea how much of the contract the Jays had to eat?

Early reports are they ate about half of it, but those aren't official.
