Scoop on Joey Gaithright?

Postby SHOCKandAWE » Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:15 am

Does Gaithright have a chance to start this year anywhere? All those SB are going to be wasted unless he lands somewhere else.

Yes, he'll end up in Boston or Florida

Maybe Florida will deal for him and give us a pitching prospect in return. I reckon the stolen bases he would give his team would be nice, but the rest that he brings to the team is not worth much of anything at all, so I can't see any teams really making a strong bid for him.

He is rumored to be involved in the four team deal sending Tejada and Gathright to Boston, Manny to the Mets.

So he says...but it could also be a ploy to make it seem the Sox dont HAVE to trade him, thus making him more tradeable.

make sense? LoL

I'm guessing he'll go to Florida. They have too many pitching prospects anyway and can afford to let one go. If it's Scott Olsen as it's being rumored, I'll be thrilled.

Joey's value in fantasy leagues is extremely high. He's basically the same player as Pierre and Podsednik and will not go as high.

I think he'll probably wind up somewhere other than Tampa. They have a logjam at OF and may have a hard time finding room for Delmon even without Gathright on the team.

He'll hold significant value if he becomes an everyday player, because of his speed.

You and me both, but I think Florida will need their head examined if they trade a top pitching prospect in Olsen for some steals in Gathright.

Its not just about 'steals'. Its about having a lead-off man with speed at the top. Steals, taking the extra base, putting pressure on the defense. Look at what Pods did with the WSox. Its why the
C(h)ubs traded for Pierre. Small ball.
There was a question asked here or on sports talk radio. Whats more difficult to find? A good closer or a good lead-off man?
