Adrian Beltre and steroids

Postby captoats85 » Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:28 pm

I was hoping for some rebound this year, maybe up to .275-25-90 but after seeing Shandler's 2006 Forecaster... I've given up a lot of hope and have concluded he was definitely juicing during 2004.

Weights taken from Sporting News Registers:

03: 170 LB, 23 HR, 24.3 AB/HR
04: 225 LB, 48 HR, 12.5 AB/HR
05: 225 LB, 19 HR, 31.7 AB/HR

Hmm... he suddenly gains FIFTY FIVE pounds and cuts his HR/AB total in half while hitting 25 more HR? That screams steroids. It looks like he came off them for 05 and his AB/HR ratio just tanked, even to a level worse than it was in 03.

it could be steroids or he could just be lazy and only try in his contract year

Could be steroids, but he also could just stink, which is more likely. One good year does not make a good player, and hopefully no Cafe goers will make the mistake of drafting him this year.

i can't remember if it was BP, Shandler, or both that had him pegged for a big 2004 and i don't think they were counting in a roid factor when they made those predictions. this isn't to say that he wasn't on roids and had a better-than-breakout year b/c of it, but it would definitely not be a majority explanation for the fact that he had success.

The roid question we'll never know but I think it's a pretty typical contract year situation.

With that said, he can't be as bad as he was last year can he? Maybe another year learning AL pitching he'll be better.

I read that in the forcaster too. Steroids for one year is a def, especially with him coming in 20 pounds heavier that year.

I think a botched appendix surgery could also have to do with a low weight in 2003.

What was his weight in 2002?

edit: Odd, his weight is listed as 170 in 2002 and 2001 also...
Yes, I was, uh... I was thinking about ordering the tape, the videotape... about the college girls and the... the wild... the wildness. They're going wild or something? Somebody told me... about going wild.

Wow, I can't believe he gained 55 pounds. It's interesting because usually people are all over that. I remember when everyone was noticing that Bret Boone was noticably bigger. I remember hearing that IRod was noticably smaller this year. You would think that someone would have noticed his huge difference in weight..... :-?
