I'm pretty high on Lowry for this season. I think he has some moderate sleeper value.

What would you have done differently?

As a fan, I would have liked to see that coveted left hand power bat and picking another 2 or 3 starter (moving Cain to the 5 spot). This in addition to Morris.
Let's hope Finley, Sweeney and Vizcaino add up to that bat.
Let's hope we don't end up with the minor league shuffle at the 5 spot.
Then again, the season has started yet
As fans, let's think real big. Let's do it now
Remember in two years this will be a whole different team.

I'm not completely unhappy with Sabean's choices, as a fan, you somehow always dream just a little above the teams budget.

A certain liberal firstbasemen who was formely a Florida Marlin would have looked pretty nice in San Francisco ;-)

I can't complain with Sabean's moves this winter, but nothing has got me overly excited.

Firstbase will be a problem spot, though. And will most likely have to be addressed by the trade deadline.

Morris was one of the best starting pitchers available this offseason. The Giants got him.

Delgado cost the Mets their top pitching prospect.

Niekro will be a fine #6 or #7 hitter.

Dreaming for a championship team to fall into your lap is for Yankee fans.

I never said that I didn't like the Morris signing.

Delgado would have solved the need for a LH bat and would have dramatically upgraded the problem at 1B.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm a little uneasy about Niekro entering the season as a starter, considering he hit .206/.251/.335 against righthanders.

So you wanted them to sign Burnett?

YES

In fact, I would have not picked up Schmidt's $10 mil option (he'll show why not this season). I would have packaged Feliz, Alfonzo and minor leaguers for a power bat. I also would have still gone after Morris.

Nice rotation. I can think of plenty of teams that would like to be in their position, at least pitching wise anyway.

That's the problem. Sabean thinks that way too.
Only one team wins the World Series. That team is never just good enough.
The Giants are consistently second because they do just enough.
Spend the money, buy the talent and buy the World Series!
Let's not finish second and then talk about how many teams are behind us. Let them ALL be behind us.
