Twins manager Ron Gardenhire intends to keep Shannon Stewart batting leadoff in the lineup this season, with new second baseman Luis Castillo hitting second and catcher Joe Mauer third.

Early plans are for Johan Santana to start in the Twins' season opener April 4 at Toronto, and for Brad Radke to start the home opener April 11 at the Metrodome against Oakland, Gardenhire said.

For the Twins sake I hope it is 2004 version instead of last year's version.

i like him as a leadoff hitter. Hopefully it will remind him of his toronto stealing days...

Won't happen, he does not have the wheels anymore. It is a sad waste--in that line-up he will barely net 100 Rs.

100 Runs? I'd be happy if he plays 100 games! This is OK news, but I was hoping for a

Cast
Mauer
Stew

Decreasing OBA and Stew would knock in some runs after those too

It's really shaping up to be

Stew
Cast
Mauer
White
Morn
Hunter
Ford/Kubel
Batista/Cuddyer
Bartlett/Castro

Need a big year from Morneau and hopefully something out of Kubel. White staying healthy of corse too.

I think I'd rather have Hunter up ahead of Morneau. He can still steal bases and probably knock in a few more runs than Morneau. Atleast for now I think. Mauer/Hunter are probably still going to be the top producers this year for the Twins.

I'm not counting on it. I probably won't draft him. high risk with low value.
