How do I build a great team?

I have found over the years that more top 5 round drafted fantasy pitchers bust more often, than top 5 round hitters bust. This is why I always use my high draft picks on hitters over pitchers. I also am in a H2H league, and you can load up in certain catagories and be ok, while in Rotis leagues you have to have balence to be competitive.

Yeah, my comment on balance was more because the original poster is a first year player. You can load up on certain stats and ignore others but I would not suggest it as a fantasy baseball virgin. Worry about it your second year.

Simple, Simple, Simple

Good speed without giving up too much power
Good MI
Good BA avg. is the hardest thing to come by.
Get an ace (really you want two...but you should only draft one pittcher in the first 4 rounds).
Don't go closer crazy but don't ignore them either (Get one in the middle of the closer run)
An unemployed jester is nobody's fool.

Since I found the Cafe, I haven't really found much use for mags anymore. All the info in them I can generally find accessable here gratis.
