I need some advice on league format

Postby Weso » Thu Jan 12, 2006 1:06 pm

I have been playing scoresheet baseball for the past 4 years. This year myself and 11 others have decided to start our own head to head league. It will be everyone's first go around using this style. What we would like are some suggestions on do's and don'ts as far as our rules go. A few things not yet decided are:

1)Both AL and NL?

2)Prizes for Teams. (Like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, most HR, most K's etc )

3)Flat draft or Auction?

Any info is appreciated

Myself I love the NL only auction style, but as beginners you may want to give yourselves a little more flexibility.

With 12 teams and it being your first attempt at this I would use Both Leagues. In a 12 team league I only give a prize/trophy to the winner. If it is money then maybe pay the top 3 but the bulk going to the winner. Don't spread the prizes too thin, otherwise it doesn't mean as much to win.

Without any auction experience you may find it tough the first year. You will all make mistakes in your first auction. But if you make it past the first year, you will find auction is the way to go.

Thanks for the info.

We usually do winner take all for the prize. But since changing gears and going with the head to head, some of our team owners have mixed feelings. We were toying with the idea of more chances to win in hopes of maintaining the interest level. I know what you are saying though, I do not want to let it get too watered down.

Funny thing: i've played draft every year since i started fantasy ball, but i LOVE auction.

I'd do the standard $260 both league auction, it's fun that way.

Prizes? I don't know, because i've never done it that way.

Good luck! Fantasy baseball is the best.

I think we are going to vote on draft style. You say $260. Is that for a 23 player team?
