B. Molina may sit out 2006.

BTW, here's something Ken Rosenthal wrote from a few hours ago:

Molina is threatening to sit out rather than accept a one-year, $4 million contract from the Blue Jays or a similar offer from another club. It's difficult to believe he would actually follow through with that plan, but taking time off from catching would save wear-and-tear on his body, enabling him to get into excellent shape and come back stronger. Then again, teams might not consider him as desirable if he was away from the game for even half a season.

It looks like it's pretty much come down to whether he wants to play in Toronto for 4 million, or just sitting out (and possibly signing with Anaheim mid-season as Phatferd said).

Wow..I just wasted 10 minutes of my life reading 130 posts on Zaun and Molina. 8-o

How are there 130 posts and 9 pages on Zaun and Molina? This should be two posts long and never viewed by anyone ever again.

I guess that's what makes the cafe great! ;-D

hell no!! While somebody else is picking up Molina (who's sturdy frame may have some elevated risk of DYBS [Dmitri Young Blowout Syndrome...] on the turf in Toronto) you can snag Zaun a couple of rounds later get a dozen homers and some hits out of him and grab somebody w/ more productivity in that slot in the draft.

He was last season but previously he had a BETTER record against right handed pitching than left handed in a combined more than 2000 AB's.

122 AB's is too small of a sample size to get too carried away with Molina's so called weakness against right handed pitching. He hits righties just fine.

Yeah, I noticed that before when I was looking at his stats a few weeks ago. He seems to be a bit inconsistant in that way. I'm probably going too far by calling "terrible" agaisnt righties, though.

His career stats still show him to be a better hitter agaisnt lefties (.793 OPS) than righties (.670 OPS), but it isn't the considerable difference that he showed in 2005.

Postby Dcon » Mon Feb 06, 2006 2:36 pm

Ken Rosenthal is reporting a deal is almost done, 1yr $5M with a $ 7.5M option. Could be annouced very shortly by the sounds of it.

The Blue Jays are close to signing Bengie Molina to a one-year, $5 million contract with a $7.5 million option for 2007.
Molina's defense is slipping and last year's offensive performance was most likely a fluke, so he's not going to be too much of an upgrade over Gregg Zaun. His signing could result in Guillermo Quiroz being traded this spring. Jason Phillips also won't have any real chance of making the team. Feb. 6 - 1:33 pm et

The previous post didn't mention the team, so I threw this out there.

Are you still telling me Weir that Molina will make $5 million to be a part-time player?

I just don't see it.

Looks like Molina is going to get more money than anybody thought if this deal goes through. 120+ games catching here he comes.
