Willis for Wright?

Postby Mookie4ever » Mon Apr 24, 2006 2:24 pm

Don't call the hamster on me. This is about the Marlins' fire sale. Apparently they tried to trade Willis for Wright straight up.

It doesn't say it in the article but I heard on the radio this morning that Minaya didn't even tell the owners about the offer before turning it down.

Willis owners keep your fingers crossed that they work out a deal with somebody other than the Rockies soon.

I heard the same thing and Willis isn't close to being worth Wright IMO.

I like both players actually, but I agree Wright is more valuable than Willis. But, I don't think it's by such a longshot that many here apparently believe.

I guess Florida's plan would have been to move Miggy back to the OF?

I agree. Young "good" pitching is very hard to come by in the MLB. This isn't fantasy baseball we're talking about!!!! Though Wright may be a little more valuable still, I don't think it is by alot!

Here is the main issue for Florida:

2006 Willis $4,350,000
2006 David Wright $374,000

I think that Dontrelle is elligible for free agency at the end of this year and Wright has a couple more seasons to go - but I'm not sure of the dates. Anyone know for sure?
