The Big Hurt isn't hurting anyone these days, but I love the nickname. Which is your favorite?

Of course, we all know that you get a nickname by something you do or a play on words with your name, etc. And there defenately are some good ones out there (old and new). But I have to think the most appropriately nicknamed player would have to be Frank Thomas. I am not a big (or even a small) Thomas fan but in his prime he did put "The Big Hurt" on opposing teams and pitchers. He also apparently put "The Big Hurt" on clubhouse chemestry in his final years with the team. And of course, he has sustained a lot of injuries and so still "The Big Hurt" is an appropriate nickname, just in a different way. I really can't think of someone who's nickname can be viewed in so many different ways....so.....it has to be my favorite.

Someone else on here said that Mauer is called by a KFAN radio talk show host as "the baby Jesus." I have heard that a few times and it is quite funny.

Jim "Catfish" Hunter
Ron Guidry - "Louisiana Lightning"
Rusty Staub - "Le Grande Orange"
Mickey Rivers - "Mick the Quick"
Mark "The Bird" Fidrych
Bill "The Spaceman" Lee

I always crack up when Lance Berkman is referred to as "Fat Elvis".

Oh, and this year's future classic, "Barroid".

Um, did you just make these up? They sound more like something you whine at the TV...

Anyways, I think El Guapo is easily the best...
