:-? There hasn't been a pitcher called "lefty" for a while. I know Steve Carlton was nick named lefty, but he is remembered as steve. Can any one actually tell me lefty groves christian name(Robert Moses) off the top of your head ?

How about Lefty Liriano?
Or Lefty Lester?

This could work cause both have the illiteration and are too young to have nicknames.

Just a thought...

Besides, I kind of thought baseball nicknames are given to players in recognition to how consistently good they are? I looked through this entire thread and that definitely appears to be the case... with one exception. :-?

Not necessarily, there are always the nicknames that are poking fun at the player. Bonehead Merkle, Bucketfoot Simmons, the various "Rube"s, Schnozz Lombardi, etc. I think the umlaut in Trü denotes sarcastic inflection so it fits right in with the rest of them. :-D
