Wood = hurt again?

Postby hybrid » Sun May 21, 2006 7:21 pm

I mean seriously, there has to be an inside joke going w/ Cubs players and in the Organization. How you can not just laugh out loud with someone says Wood has "soreness" or is hurt ... well it's beyond me.

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood has some soreness in his right shoulder and will not start on Tuesday if he does not pass his next side session.
Wood did not throw on Sunday, which would've been a normal side session. Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild said the right-hander will do a light pen on Monday at Dolphin Stadium.

"It's regular soreness that people have in between starts," Wood said. "I plan on pitching Tuesday."

Wood is coming off arthroscopic shoulder surgery in late August, and made his first start last Thursday against Washington. In the game, Wood threw 71 pitches over five innings, serving up three home runs.

Rothschild said he wants to see how Wood feels on Monday.

"If we need to be guarded with him, we'll be guarded with him," Rothschild said.

So can we get an over/under on how many games he will pitch before going on the DL or being hurt again?

Zero. He'll go back on the DL very soon.

make him a reliever already.

good grief.

maybe he can pitch an inning or two every couple of days without completely screwing up his arm/shoulder/whatever. He'll never be a dependable starter.

Oh damn...if he goes on the DL again I am going to regret picking him in the 10th round thinking that a player cant get injured too many seasons in a row.

I traded him in my keeper knowing that he, in particular, could.

Getting Thome for him has been a huge steal.

The only hope I had for him was if that talk about making him a closer had been true. When it became apparent it wasn't, I gave up and moved on.

Good Lord. Wood should just take a year off from baseball. Maybe then he'll be rested and can restart his career.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
