Detroit is a contender so they would be nuts to mess with trading Rodney or Jones.

Wickman is a possibility when\if the Tribe concedes the division.

Guardado is probably available on the cheap and could be useful to the Braves.

Weathers in Cincy will likely be available too I should think if the Reds fall out of it. He has been serviceable in the role and would not cost all that much.

Mike Gonzalez in Pitts?

Guardado (at this point) & Weathers (never was) aren't closers.

Why is Ray necessarily much different from Turnbow or even Kerry Ligtenberg, who saved 30 games for the Braves in '98?

Shoot if the braves are dumb enough to trade for a closer who throws 86 mph with goofy knees then they deserve it. Foulke is worse the reitsma
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

Ehh. I really did want to hear what people thought about Kenny Ray. Are these responses an indication that the rest of the Cafe (like myself) doesnt' think Ray has closer stuff? If not, why? Please, give me thoughts on Kenny Ray!!

1.)When was the last time the Braves made a big midseason trade?
2.)When was the last time the Braves where willing to spend big money for a player. (Besides Hudson)

How can you count Hudson out? They've had big contracts with Andruw, Chipper, Hampton, Smoltz, Sheffield, etc. and Hudson was the first opportunity they had to sign a big name guy, and they took it.

The Braves got Kyle Farnsworth, a guy with an ERA in the 1s last yaer.

Anyways, on Ray, I think he may be able to do it. He has a filthy changeup, that's where all his success comes from. Apparently he reworked it and made it much better this offseason with some coaches. He throws 92-93 but that's good enough with his change. He gets the first guy out some ridiculous amount in his appearances too.

Hopefully he can keep getting the job done, but if he doesn't, which is most likely, IF/WHEN he starts sucking, WILLIAM STARTUP will be ready for the job. (He just got promoted to AAA after just dominating A/AA) Devine's not due back 'til June 15th just to start pitching again at AAA
