And what exactly is Phil Nevin going to do once Derek Lee comes back...and that's not even that far off, maybe a month and a half or so.
Let's go O's. Let's go Mets.

Return to the bench, where he belongs.

He used to be a backup catcher (and outfielder too, I think), but I would assume those days are long behind him.

If Texas can deal him and not have to pay his contract, I'd be all for it.

botts is a good guy...he's MASSIVE stands aprx 6ft7....he's historically a hr hitter, he's really a firstbasemen but they played him in the outfield in the minors because they wanted to convert him.

he's got a good eye and can draw a lot of walks, he's also a switch hitter. rumor is billy beane has been after him for a while.

my guess is they are getting him so cheap that they can afford to bench him after lee comes back

Well Cubs fans, if the deal really is for Hairston, I guess Tony Womack is your everyday 2B now. :-P

At least Nevin will bump Neifi down a bench spot once Lee returns.

Maybe for the 3 more games he's hot, but I see it more likely being Walker at 2B and Nevin at 1B. Worst case, Nevin if more useful than Mabry right now. Also, if there was a time to get lucky for the Cubs, it is now with 2 weeks of intra-division play coming up (not that it will really matter, but Hendry has to look like he's trying, right?)

Jason Botts isn't a premier prospect but is a good one. Always been a HR hitter with good strike zone judgement. Broke out this year.
