Why do people continue to defend MATT CAIN?

Postby red_foot » Sat Jun 17, 2006 1:43 am

Seriously, in the Waiver/Trade forum, everyone always says to hold onto Cain. But why? His numbers suck except for 1 great outing and 1 ok outing. Take out those two, which were a month or so ago, and he's been flat out horrible. Strike outs are not THAT valuable and he's not even that great with those.

So someone tell me what the big deal is. Why shouldn't I drop him for Olsen, Soler, Billingsley, or hell even elarton.

*Note to WebHamster* I am not asking for advice, I have already dropped his sorry ass. I just want to know why other people defend him, therefore I feel that this is the correct forum.

So did Foppert. Cain is WW fodder in most mixed leagues imo. People simply refuse to give up on the hype and admit a mistake. He might be good next year, he might even manage to become decent for a month of so this season. But he has been way too inconsistent to trust at this point in a mixed league.

I've always felt he's not ready. His BBs and HRs in the minors last year were cause for major concern to me. 45 Innings in the majors doesn't change that, especially when he only had 30 Ks.

Last season's stats were somewhat impressive.

Yes, but the league hadn't had a good look at him through just 46 Innings. This happens with many rookie pitchers. His K rate should have been some cause for concern.
