NY Mets Rotation

Pedro's back, Bannister's pretty close. Does he reclaim a spot? Maybe something like this:

1. Pedro
2. Glavine
3: Trachsel
4: Pelfry (?)
5: Bannister (??), (maybe Maine or Hernandez? Soler called back up??)

Well you forgot one guy, El Duque ... he is their 3rd/4th guy right now. Pelfrey was just sent down to AAA to get more experience as Maine was pitching very well and desrved to stay up for the time being.

edit: I see that you actually didn't forget him, but he is defiantly in their rotation now ... not really a questionable pitcher fighting for the last spot in the rotation.

Bannister will get a shot at Maine's spot. Loser will probably end up in the bullpen.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

When's Oliver Perez getting a shot. IF, big if, he can get what he lost back...scary rotation.

He hasn't pitched yet in Norfolk. I think the chances of him being in the rotation this year are pretty slim. Maybe he could be an extra arm in the bullpen when the rosters expand but even that seems like it would require a small miracle.

Perez will likely be in AAA for the remainder of 06. Pelfry was just sent there as well.

That leaves Bannister, Maine, and El Duque for the last two spots. Maine has been great, and El Duque had been pretty solid for them as well. Bannister was great before he got injured, so it's anyones guess who rounds out this rotation.

I suspect Willie will go with the hot hand until the playoffs - El Duque, Maine, Bannister. Perez if he suddenly finds his 04 form. And then you only need a 4 man rotation in the playoffs, so that'd be

Pedro
Glavine
Traschel
Whichever looks best over the next 2 months.

Sounds about right. One thing I could definitely see happen, however, is that #4 is only between Maine/Bannister and El Duque works out of the pen. El Duque has the flexibility and playoff experience to do that, so I think it's a distinct possibility.
