Your bench - batters or pitchers?

Postby Thursday » Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:12 pm

Simple question, do you usually put batters or pitchers on your bench? Me personally, i hate having bench batters, because they always seem to do something good whenever i bench them. As a result, 5 out of the 6 bench spots my league has are occupied by pitchers.

What do you do, Cafe?

I usually have a guy on my bench who can play multiple positions so on an off day or an injury to one of my starters i can plug him in. But i agree with you, my bench is delagated primarily for pitchers.

The reason i ask is because i can't really decide to keep a bench hitter over a closer on FA in my league (Saito). I'm trying to see what other people do, to help me decide.

Yup, me too. I typically have 1 batter on the bench, and use him to rotate in and pick up some starts when others have days off. The rest is filled with SP's. I have all of my RP and P slots filled with closers and MR guys, and I rotate in my starters to the SP slots.

I avoid having any bench hitters if possible. Saito should be owned in all leagues.

Problem is, i don't have a bench hitter to drop. I have:

Ethier
Cameron
Fielder
Freddy Sanchez

And none of them raelly stand out to me as to drop to get Saito. Believe me, i'd love to get him, but my decision is too hard. I literally lost sleep about it last night. :-b

I draft mostly stud hitting and load up on pitchers. I watch the Cafe for early whispers of guys and take fliers.

I have one utility guy (plays multiple positions) on my bench and the rest I invest in starting pitchers.

I currently have Huff and Punto in a 16 team league and switch them off dependingh on the situation, everyone else is a starter for me.
Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!

If these bench guys rarely get into your starting lineup, then you can drop any of them for Saito -- it shouldn't even be that tough a decision. Saito's the closer for a winning team and has a 2.42 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 69Ks in 52 IPs. Drop either Ethier or Cameron -- you don't need 2 bench OFers.
