However, since 1998 he has stolen more than 20 bases every year except one (19); he has had an OBP over .400 every year except one (.393); and his slugging average has been over .400 every year (a good number of them over .500). The guy has been consistent. He may lose his power. He hasn't lost his batting eye.

he's one of the major leagues best when it comes to plate discipline for sure.

I take Player A's numbers, but I don't have Abreu down for that season at all. HRs are probably okay, but I don't think he'll steal more than 20 bases.

Also concerning is Abreu's power drop...

Post AB 05: 6 HR, .411 SLG
Pre AB 06: 8 HR, .467 SLG
Post AB 06: 7 HR, .456 SLG

He may hit 20 HR again but I think that is probably on the higher end of the spectrum for him going forward.

Hhmmm.... .300 avg is a pretty close given......20hrs is pretty avg for him, especially with the protection he will have.......115 rbi hitting 3rd for the Yankees is almost on the low side.........110 runs for a .400+ obp #3 hitter for the yankees is close to a given........He has stolen less than 28 bases only ONCE since 2000.

.....how will he not get these numbers unless of course he doesn't stay healthy which he always is...... :-?

I'd take player A, but I don't have have Bobby down for 20 HR's.

Player A is Bobby Abreu hitting 3rd for that Yankees lineup

Player B is a 35 yr old Manny Ramirez coming off an injury season hitting behind Ortiz who takes RBIs away and never scores alot of runs or steals any bases.

Do you guys take Abreu before Manny?

Jason

Yes, Manny is coming off patella tendinitis. But just hold on. Just a cursory glance at the numbers shows the stark, and I do mean stark difference that exists between Manny and Bobby Abreu.

Abreu is a great player. He is patient. He see a lot of pitches. He hustles.

Manny is Manny. He doesn't hustle. He gets injured a lot. He needs days off.

GIVE ME A BREAK

I am not going to go into some kind of crazy I am Red Sox nation diatribe....but come on guys. Here is my two cents:
Imagine yourself sitting at your draft. You have your favorite beer, magazine, and you are sitting pretty in the six spot, nice and comfy and ready to make your first pick.
Off goes Pujols, Santana, Soriano, ARod, Guerrero.

Now here you are. Your palms are sweating.
You can feel last year's Tejada choice causing a furball in your throat.
Now who do you choose?
Manny or Bobby?

C'mon! Fess Up!

At 6, I wouldn't take either.

I would rather have Abreu than Manny though.

Well, I agree with the numbers outside of the SBs. I just don't see any reason for him to be stealing upwards of 30 times given the spot he'll be hitting in in that lineup. I mean, are they really going to send him very often with Jason Giambi hitting behind him? It just doesn't seem likely to me.
