Hermida breakout?

Postby geronamo » Thu Oct 19, 2006 6:23 pm

Will Hermida breakout next season or should we expect more mediocrity?

I think he'll be better than last year but not quite as good as what the high end projections were coming into '06. I wouldn't expect the 20/20 predictions that some people were hoping for. It's not impossible, but I'm not going to draft him in a round that's commensurate with those numbers.

Well, he obviously can't be worse, but I really want to see him healthy before I can make a lot of predictions. I still think he's got a great career ahead of him though.

I heard the Cubs are interested. If he goes to the Cubs, he'll have a breakout.

Haha. I heard the Cubs were going to sign Bruce Bochy and trade him for Hermida, who they'll package for Pujols, who they'll deal straight up for Santana, who they'll deal to the Marlins for Bruce Bochy and cash considerations.

Hermida's a diesel prospect. Depending on your definition of 'break out', my answer is yes.

I think Hermida and Todd Hollandsworth are really the same person, or at least of equal ability.

I think Hermida is and will be nothing special. He does nothing well.

I think it is safe to excuse Hermida from his first full season due to injuries. It is hard enough to put up decent numbers as a rook when you are completely healthy and play enough games to get it going.

Do not forget that he is still only 22 yo and put up great numbers in the minors. He still displayed pretty good K/BB skills despite a disappointing season. I expect him to bounce back and put up good numbers across the board. But health seems to be a big factor in his success.
