Now does Dusty get the love .... ???

The 2002 Cubs were a team that lost confidence in themselves and their manager. Actually the raw numbers suggested a .500 or so record in 2002, but a 18-36 record in one-run games and failure in clutch situations drove their record down to 67-95.

The 2003 Cubs reversed their bad fortune through whatever combination (confidence, Dusty's magic pixie dust, timely hitting) and with Prior's move to the elite and Zambrano's emergence, 88 wins is really not a major shock. What was really shocking was their 2002 performance!

I dont dislike Dusty but I believe you could give most any manager that pitching staff and they could win with it. When they are on all 4 are going to give you a chance to win.

I like Dusty, but don't love him. He's a good manager, but could do with a good bench coach to make on-field decisions for him. Not that his decisions have been horrible, but they could have been better.

But Hendry... man, I could kiss him. Grudz and Karros were great acquisitions. If they had flopped, you'd hear about how we just exchanged the expensive Hundley for *two* expensive bench players, but as it is, you never hear about how much they cost. Probably because Cubs fans remember that we'd have paid $20 million out-of-pocket, if it just meant getting Todd out of the city. And the Pirates acquisitions.... granted Pittsburgh wanted to get rid of their whole team, so it wasn't exactly the steal of the century, but Hendry was there when he needed to be. And all of you guys said that they didn't get any impact players...
