Have you ever missed a draft and lucked into a great team?

I only ask because I was looking over a league with a lot of my friends in, and one guy got Johan, Teix and Manny with his first three picks, and another ended up with Beltran and MCab. Neither of them were there. So, I wondered, have you ever missed a draft and found that everyone else was so busy reaching on positional scarcity or whatever that you still ended up with a contender?

I think it happens all the time. I never missed a draft but in a 20 team league draft, one guy didn't show up on time and autodrafted:

Utley
Carpenter
Peavy
Rolen
Uggla
Helton

That's not bad in a 20 team league with mostly knowledgeable/active owners.

Not with baseball no but I missed the first 4 rounds of my Football league last year and ended up with Burress, Holt, Houshemanzedah (sp!) and Ronnie Brown.

I ended up dominating the league, but that was mostly because I took the Ravens Defense before anyone was thinking defenses (and it turned out to be a defense oriented league) as well as Robbie Gould.

I won a Yahoo Plus league last season after forgetting the draft.

Just some smart moves on the trade block ;-D

Happened to me last season. Somehow I got a great roster, including Soriano, and won the regualr season by 30 games. The team blew everyone away. I made less than 10 moves all season. It wasn't broke, so I didn't fix it. I felt so bad, because I really didn't deserve to be that good. Karma worked itself out though, and I lost in the playoffs.
