Where is Josh Barfield batting?

Postby BillyHallDisciple » Sun Mar 11, 2007 11:05 pm

Does anyone know if he's supposed to be at the top or bottom of the line-up for Cleveland this year? If he's #1 or #2 I like his chances to have a very solid year and could make a decent value pick.

What's the overall Cafe consensus on Barfield, Is he too hyped right now? The one big flaw in his numbers was that he had a .318 OBP last year, but still put up 72-13-58-21-.278. Now that he's in a better offense I could see those numbers going up a little bit.

Right now, he's slated to bat 9th. But I personally think he's the future #2 hitter in that lineup.

Cleveland doesn't run as much as san diego so my guess is his SB's go down some. I'm not all that high on him but if you don't get one of the top end 2B you could certainly do worse in the later rounds to fill out the slot.

I expect him to bat 9th all year as that "second leadoff hitter" that managers seem to like.

I now it is early, but he has been in the leadoff slot for four of the last six games. ;-D

He led off one game that Sizemore didn't play in. Jason Michaels also led off one game where Sizemore sat, I wouldn't read anything into that.

I think he'll start the year batting 9th...but if he hits well he will be in the leadoff spot within a month or so. Wedge knows he's wasting a lot of Sizemore's power by putting him in the leadoff spot, but they just didn't have a lot of options last year. Now, they do.

Tribe batting order as far as I can tell:

Versus righties:
1. Sizemore CF
2. Nixon RF
3. Hafner DH
4. VMart C
5. Dellucci LF
6. Blake 1B
7. Peralta SS
8. Marte 3B
9. Barfield 2B

In this scenario Barfield could eventually move to the 2 -hole as they have 3 lefties at the top of the order, but if Nixon hits he stays.

Versus lefties:
1. Sizemore CF
2. Michaels LF
3. Hafner DH
4. VMArt C
5. Blake RF
6. Garko 1B(if he makes the team)
7. Peralta SS
8. Marte 3B
9. Barfield 2B

As for Sizemore moving down in the order to the 3 hole it could happen. I think it could happen come August if not then than spring 2008 for those in keeper leagues.

Barfield looks like the #9 guy as of right now, but if Nixon gets hurt, what the odds,LOL, then Barfield could move to the 2 hole, though they could put Michaels there.
