Yankee's Closer

Let's say Mariano Rivera continues down this ugly path. Who would get the closer's job? Is there an heir to the closer position in the minors?

Seriously, don't get your hopes up. If the sky fell tomorrow, perhaps Farnsworth would get the first shot, but honestly, it's not going to happen.

If Mo blew his next 5 save opps, he would not be moved from the closer's role. He is maybe the best closer of all time. If he starts to really do horrible, then he would have to be hurt. So if you believe that Mo is hurt and could go on the DL, then I'd say Farnsworth would probably get the job. But unless he's hurt Rivera isn't going anywhere

Rivera wouldn't lose the job. Even if he continued to be terrible, he'd go on the DL with some kind of shoulder stiffness or elbow stiffness and then try and figure things out

Proctor and Viz would get the job.

Quoted for truth.

Don't worry about it yet, Mo did this a couple of years ago and ended up being the in the cy young discussion.

I heard a lot of good things about J. Brent Cox, as far as minor leaguers go. He might've been set back a year by the elbow surgery he just had though.

Rivera will have the closing job until he retires.

I don't think Cox projects to be a closer but more of a 7th or 8th inning guy.

One should never say never but barring injury Mo will NEVER be displaced as closer this season.Should an injury occur, the next in line seems to be Vizcaino, who Mo himself is high on, and Proctor would Torre trusts.Hell to the no on Farnsworth;he has trouble pitching back to back days and Joe is not showing a lot of faith in him.I do wonder if Mo's contract situation is distracting him.

Looking forward, Mariano's successor is not in the organiztion IMO.
