Good way to get more innings out of your quality starters if it's his throw day anyways. I'd like to see more teams do it.

maybe torre's pulling a Manuel and making him a reliever?

I think it's a good move, but it's not Torre's fault he has to use the bullpen so much, the starter never makes it past the 5th.

Even though it may have been his throw day...it makes no sense to me to have him come in and throw his "side session" against the likes of David Ortiz...it's not like the guys are going all out, they're mainly trying to keep loose.

But yeah, the Yanks pen has been overworked so it didn't really seem like that bad an idea.

At that point it was a close enough game that they were still very much in it. Probly just wanted to not let the game get further out of hand..and Pettitte had said he thought he coulda kept going Friday.

wouldnt pitching in real game situations be way more taxing than off day throwing?
