Hitter ratios

What's a good ratio to look at when looking at hitters?
I know about BABIP

I'm trying to figure out if certain hitters are bound to have a low average because they Strike Out so many times in a season.

Does K: BB tell me this? Or something like K:Hit or Hit: BB?

Two players on my roster jump out to me so far this year looking at K: BB
Granderson - 18:4
Upton - 20:5

So does that mean Upton's .340ish avg is gunna drop alot pretty soon? I know I'm always reading Dunn's avg will always be garbage because he strikes out so much.

BABIP is not as consistent for hitters as it is for pitchers. Some hitters can consistently have BABIP of 33%+.

But in terms of batting average, the stat I look at is K/AB. The more a player Ks, the less balls he puts into play and the higher his BABIP must be for him to have a decent BA.

If a player gets 600 AB and strikes out 200 times, he'd have to hit .450 (180/400) his remainign ABs just to hit 0.300 overall. Conversely, another player with 600 AB who strikes out 100 times could hit 0.300 by hitting 0.360 (180/500) which is much more realistic.

K/BB gives me an idea whether the player has a good eye and therefore whether he will swing at good pitches. But I'll look at K/AB more for an indicator on BA.
