ESPN Mistake?

Postby Drunken Rhino » Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:14 pm

This article from ESPN says that Sexson is a .300 hitter against Padilla.

ESPN Player Page (5/17 against Padilla)

If you look at his career number on his player page on Yahoo! it says he's a .200 hitter.

Why the disparity?

Well ESPN says Sexson has faced Padilla in 17 atbats and gotten 5 hits, Yahoo says that Sexson has had 15 atbats with three hits.

...So i assume that Sexson was 2 for 2 against Padilla before 1987. ;-7

good logic - if he wasn't drafted in '93.

I think ESPN somehow counted the 2 walks Sexson had against Padilla this year as hits (thus, giving him 2 extra-ABs and 2 extra-Hs)

Quick, look up! You'll see the sarcasm zooming right over your head.

As for the Sexson/Padilla thing, I'm going to go with Yahoo! on this one: baseball reference has Sexon 3/15 against Padilla with 2BB and a HBP. I've got no explanation for the descrepancy, but based on recent history, it's possible that ESPN just plain sucks.

very weird, when I looked at yahoo's splits early yesterday morning I swore I saw a .300 career avg. vs Padilla for Sex, yet when I went back today, it said .200.

Reading the title, I figured this was another thread about how bad Fernando Vina is on Baseball Tonight.
