How good is Jon Lester?

Postby Zhangman1 » Wed Apr 25, 2007 12:57 pm

Picked up Jon Lester just to make use of my DL spot. I hear he was a highly touted prospect but had problems with control last year. How good do you guys see him as being this year? Any comparisions?

never really that high on him. And seriously doubt he'll do much this year.

He could be a very high upside guy. He will be the Red Sox fifth starter very soon, so there won't be much pressure on him. He will also win some games due to the BoSox offense. He will get you K's but he might hurt your WHIP some. I think he is a nice pickup.

There are good reasons he was more highly regarded than Papelbon before last year.

I think he has a limited ceiling because he doesn't have top notch "stuff". I think he's a #3 type mlb pitcher.....at least thats where I think he will end up.

Yeah his cancer went into remission.

I've always had the impression that he had the potential to be a #2 (maybe #3 on the Red Sox super-staff B-) ) Now if he ever reaches that is to still be seen, but he does have the potential. He is young and still needs to work on some stuff.

I always thought of him as a #3 type guy. Solid but won't be winning any Cy Young's. If he doesn't get that WHIP he had last year down, he's going to have troubles.
