This guy might have started his climb toward stud status. He was a very touted prospect a few years back before the TJ surgery and has had trouble with control ever since. I think he might be scratching the surface finally. 3 straight QS and he is dealing tonight.

thoughts?

I don't know much about this guy but checking out his stats this is his fourth QS in a row (BAL, NYY, CHW & LAD).

As thin as pitching is to get free agent wise in most leagues I think he's worth a serious look.

I just wrote this in the game commentary thread, but I'll say it again.

McGowan has the potential to be a very, very good pitcher in this league, provided he throws strikes, which he's been doing for the past few weeks. I still wouldn't totally trust him, however. Keep him on your watch list, though. And if it's a deep enough league, I might just pick him up if you have an open roster spot.

Yeah, he is def. looking like a good option now. I'm really hoping his control problems don't return because I've been waiting for him to break out for quite a while.

Definitely looking like an option, but man I just hate having starters in the AL East

only 6 BBs his last 27.2 IP

If he can keep up this control, he'll be a very good pitcher.

As several here have said, he needs to work on his consistency and throwing more pitches for strikes, cut down on his walks. A high percentage of his pitches today were balls, but he was effective in battling through various situations he put himself in.

If he can consistently throw strikes then McGowan has a potentially very high ceiling, he is turning into a very solid pitcher.

i really wouldnt put too much stock in how he did today, he walked 4, gave up some hits, and he was going up against a horrible line up:
roberts
scheirholtz
winn
klesko
durham
feliz
vizquel
some new catcher who played his first game in the majors after 12 years in the minors

wow, thats bad...

I think he's still a while from becoming a solid pitcher. Yes he has great stuff, and has the potential to be. But it's only been three weeks that he's really pitched well. You're jumping on this guy too early. I need to see consistency from this guy for a much longer time till I would consider him a, "Very solid pitcher". I wasn't able to see the whole game today, but I wasn't exactly impressed from what I did see.
