670 The Score reporting this morning that Mark Buehrle has come to agreement with the Whitesox, thus nixing all the swirling trade rumors, and making sox fans pretty happy, i'd say. ;D

Sure seems like all those trade rumors were just designed to get Buehrle and his agent back to the table at this point.

i'm sure that was part of the deal with those rumors...Kenny Williams is always playing games with stuff like that, and it obviously worked in this case, although it does have the Sox giving a 4 year contract to a pitcher, which goes against their expressed policy on pitchers (max. 3 year contracts).

That's what I was thinking (and maybe hoping as a Mets fan)... it makes him more valuable to know you'd be trading for a guy you'll have for 4 years rather than half a year...

I wonder if he put in some kind of no trade clause (at least for this year).

i think probably not...if it were a sign and trade, why would Buehrle agree to the lowball offer? On the open market, i'm pretty sure he'd get offered 5 years, probably 15 mil. per year, which adds up to quite a bit more than he got here...if he was okay with just going anywhere, it seems like he would have waited until the end of the year and really gotten his money. I think it's probably just the home-town discount for a guy who seems to enjoy pitching for the Sox and having his family in chicago.

i haven't heard anything about a no-trade, but i'm betting that if it really is 4 years for 50 mil., that Buehrle got pretty decent control over the trade situation...the Sox kinda got Vasquez at a bargain price last year, and gave him the no-trade, so i wouldn't be surprised at all if the did the same for Buehrle.
