agreed. if he had hit the open market, i think there's no doubt it's less than he would have gotten. i think it must be the hometown discount. seems like the Sox have a way of making that happen, what with Konerko leaving Angels' $ on the table, and with Vasquez signing kinda low last year. Seems like a case of Kenny Williams playing his cards pretty well...the initial low ball offer at the end of last year (3 years, 30 mil.) + the hardline stance of nothing over 3 yr. contracts for pitchers + a bunch of talk about blowing up the team + Buehrle trade rumors with about 5 or 6 different teams = Buehrle willing to sign for less than open market value, as long as the Sox would come off their lowball. If it is indeed true, it seems like a pretty good deal for the Sox.

Sox are denying this and have heard nothing else except it was reported this morning on the SCR. The lack of follow-up and the low $$ lead me to believe this is not a done deal. This morning the Trib reported 12 scouts were still planning to attend tonight's start...

I've heard this too. It might be some sort of bargaining chip to get potential trading partners to give up some more.

Honestly, I don't think that Buehrle would even take that. He could get on the open market 5/75, easy. He's better than Zito, and you saw what he got. I still thinks he gets traded to the Braves, Mets, or Red Sox. In that order.

Im pretty sure this is a false report. Or at least, a premature one. Im listening to the White Sox on radio right now, and the announcers were debating whether or not he would sign or be traded. And, I read this morning that he and the White Sox were discussing a possible deal with that same amount. It's not a done deal yet.
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.

It's highly debatable if Buehrle is better than Zito. There is NO way he'd get a contract near that size. For one, Zitos contract has to look bad enough right now that nobody else is getting one of those for a while. Second, Zito is lefty and has a Cy Young- things that have nothing to do with quality, but have a lot to do with salary negotiation.

buehrle is a lefty. not saying he's better than zito, but if he does hit the market, he will definitely get his...proven AL pitcher, lefty, no-hitter this year, yeah, he'll ge this.

Wow.... talk about spacing out. I had this mental image of him throwing righty. Maybe it's because it's been so long since I've seen a sox game.... watching any activity involving Ozzy Guillen makes me blind with rage.
