Curious if Cub fans are still happy about this one in 3 years. That arm has seen a lot of abuse and I'm not sure he'll ever mentally mature enough to be consistently good month to month.

i think he'll be fine. IMO he's proven his ability to sustain pitch counts above the league average. In 3 years he'll be be hitting his prime age, unlike another high-priced acquisition we recently made, so at least in relative terms its a good signing. Same compared to Zito.

I think he's definitely overdue for a major injury, but then again I've been saying that for two years now. All that said, its a good deal for the Cubs that they should have done. Good job.

I'm pretty jazzed about this too. I don't see the rough starts as that much of a problem as he seems to heat up as soon as it gets hot out every year. ;-D

I wonder what this means for the Cubs' chances in the A-Rod sweepstakes this offseason. What is there payroll up to now?

I think that would depend on if they make it to the playoffs and how far they can push it w/o getting smacked by more injuries. A Cubs World Series appearance would be like a license to print money for the team.

I really like having Fontenot and Theriot up the middle, given that they've got experience together and seem to have some decent upside but ARod would be an amazing addition to the roster. A murderer's row setup w/ the combo of bats they would have on hand.

All in all I like the deal... I don't like how he has looked his last few starts, though he "says" he isn't hurting...
